Like the vast majority of independent blogs/websites, The Closet Feminist has a lot to do, but not quite the budget to make it happen. If you would like to help us to continue create amazing content, here is our wish list.
Why: We read a lot of magazines to help us create content. We use them to help make both our Covers & Content and Gloss Over This series, not to mention all the miscellaneous articles in between . Furthermore, it helps us to keep track of magazines that are doing especially well (or poorly) in terms of diversity. If there is an especially diverse or racist spread, we can scan it and share it with our readers. Here are the ones we are hoping for:
We are planning on adding vlogging to our repertoire, and while we have the basics to make that happen, we’re hoping to get higher quality equipment like the stuff below.
Microphone for videos
Being informed by feminist thinking is a way to make sure our articles stay sharp, relevant, and interesting. Right now we’re really hoping for a copy of each of the following:
Outlaw Culture: Resisting Representations by bell hooks (Note: please consider ordering it through the Feminist Frequency bookstore to support another great feminist site!)
Overdressed: The Shockingly High Cost of Cheap Fashion by Elizabeth Cline
Fashion Talks: Undressing the Power of Style eds. Shira Tarrant and Marjorie Jolles
Hot and Heavy: Fierce Fat Girls on Love, Life, and Fashion ed. Virgie Tovar
What have we spent our money on so far?
Since we have no sponsors or advertisers, curious to know what The Closet Feminist has invested in so far on our own? Here’s the list:
